It’s funny to me that you named-checked Roy Schneider— you’re right, of course. He does not look like he was crafted in finely-honed alabaster, but as a child in the 70s & 80s, I thought of him as a “handsome actor”, and as I got older, I thought his career didn’t take off because he was just generically handsome. He’s ten times as interesting looking as any current leading man I can think of.
I'm with you Gena. There was a time when you could be an actor because you had an "interesting look." Now, they are all conventionally attractive. It's boring and makes a lot of the roles they are cast in quite unbelievable.
